Eye Drops

LASIK Post-Operative Drops

 

Maxidex is an anti-inflammatory and Zymar is an antibiotic drop.  Please remember to shake well each time the drops are used. Maxidex and Zymar are to be used 1 drop of each medication, per eye, every 3 hours(while awake) for five days. After which time the medication should be discarded. 

 

After surgery, it is very important to lubricate, lubricate and lubricate.  Artificial tears are used to do this and are a vital part of the healing process.  Immediately after surgery, it is recommended to lubricate each eye with the artificial tears a minimum of 1-2 drops every half hour while you are awake.  Additional drops can be applied should you experience any discomfort.

 

The days following your surgery, drops should continue to be applied.  This will continue for at least the next 3-6 months as this is the crucial healing period for your eyes.  Drops should be applied at a rate of 2-4 hours minimum, although again, additional drops can be applied should you experience any discomfort. 

 

The recommended artificial tears to use are Refresh Tears or Bion Tears.

 

Do not use old contact solution or any type of drop to eliminate eye redness, such as Visine or Clear Eyes.  These will not aid in the healing process and may do more harm than good.


PRK Post-Operative Drops

  • ZYMAR is an antibiotic drop that is to be used 1 drop every 2 hours until the doctor determines that the surface of the cornea is fully healed. ONLY WHILE YOUR AWAKE.
  • ACULAR is an anti-inflammatory drop that is to be used 1 drop 3 times a day until the contact lenses are removed. 
  • FML is a corticosteriod drop that is to be used as follows:
       
    1 drop, 2 times a day until the contact lenses are removed and then CONTINUE to use as follows:
    1 drop, 5 times a day for the next week
    1 drop, 4 times a day for the next 2 weeks (weeks #2 & #3)
    1 drop, 3 times a day for the next 2 weeks (weeks #4 & #5)
    1 drop, 2 times a day for the next 2 weeks (weeks #6 & #7)
    1 drop, 1 time a day for the next 2 weeks (weeks #8 & #9)
    FML should be used a total of 9 weeks.

    TETRACAINE is a pain relief drops.  Use when necessary for pain relief. Do not exceed every two hours while awake.

    Tear Gel can be used once the bandage contact lenses have been removed, which is approximately 5 to 6 days after the surgery.
