PRIOR TO YOUR LASIK EYE SURGERY DAY
Ø If you choose to have post-operative care with your own eye care professional, follow-up visits must take place at 1 week, 1 month and 3 months following LASIK surgery, and additional visits are required for PRK.
Ø Please provide LASIK Eye Centers with the name of your eye care professional responsible for your post-LASIK Eye Surgery care.
Ø Please arrange transportation for after your LASIK surgery.
Ø Depending upon your occupation, you may be required to be away from work for up to 4 days following LASIK Eye Surgery.
Ø There are generally no restrictions on eating or taking medications before or on the day of your LASIK surgery, however please advise LASIK Eye Centers of any medication you taking.
Ø You will not be driving long distances for approximately 3 days after LASIK surgery and 7 days after PRK.
Ø LASIK Eye Centers is not responsible for travel and accommodation expenses; however we would be happy to provide you with a list of hotels close to our center. ( insert link to Coming From Out of Town)
Ø If traveling from outside of Canada, please remember proper identification particularly your passport, plus your birth certificate, certificate of citizenship, or naturalization certificate. LASIK Eye Centers also advises that you bring additional picture identification such as a driver’s license.
Note: LASIK surgery is an elective medical procedure and thus, you may be required to extend your stay due to the healing process of your eyes. Any additional travel and/or accommodation fees will not be the responsibility of LASIK Eye Centers.
Ø Please remove all eye makeup a minimum of 3 days prior to the LASIK surgery. For your own safety, the procedure will be cancelled if makeup is present.
THE DAY OF YOUR LASIK Eye Surgery
Ø It is natural to feel nervous, anxious or excited prior to your surgical procedure. Again, this is a completely normal response.
Ø Do not to wear perfume or cologne on the day of your LASIK Eye Surgery. Also, please do not use any hair products that contain alcohol such as hair spray or mousse.
Ø Please remember to pre-arrange alternate transportation after LASIK Eye Surgery, because your eyes will be irritated and sensitive to light. This usually dissipates within 24 hours after surgery.
Ø It is important that you remove all facial makeup (lipstick, facial creams, eye makeup etc.) a minimum of 3 days prior to surgery. For your own safety, surgery will be cancelled if makeup is present.
Ø LASIK Eye Centers recommends avoiding alcohol 24 hours prior to and 48 hours after your surgery. Alcohol tends to dehydrate the tissues.
Ø Wear comfortable clothing on your surgery day, and avoid clothing such as wool that may generate lint in the surgical suite.
Ø In consideration of others, and to ensure your visit is as comfortable as possible, please do not bring young children/infants with you to the clinic.
Ø When you arrive on the day of your LASIK surgery, expect to be at the clinic for approximately two hours. You will be asked to fill out a patient consent form (PDF file) and a governing law form ( if visiting from outside of Canada). Once the forms are completed you will then meet with one of our surgical counselors who will go over the drops procedure and what you can and can't do after surgery.
Ø You will be required to return to our clinic within 24 hours after your surgery for your first (mandatory) post-operative LASIK Eye Surgery appointment. Your appointment time will be given to you immediately after your surgery.
