Bausch & Lomb's WAVEFRONT

LASIK Eye Centres is proud to use Bausch and Lomb's Z100 and  "updated" WAVEFRONT technology to give you a more advanced form of laser eye surgery. This highly sophisticated technology allows the surgeon to examine each eye for previously unseen details known as aberrations.

WAVEFRONT and How it works...

The WAVEFRONT treatment
and 3-Dimensional Topography from the Orbscan IIz to plan a treatment tailor made to suit you. The planning is conducted through a Treatment Planner and your surgeon evaluates all options and makes the best decision for your eyes.

The treatment profile is then delivered
by the Bausch and Lomb's Z100  Laser using a combination of 2mm and 1mm spots. All this is accurately placed on the cornea under a LASIK flap. Accuracy is ensured by the advanced iris recognition and
rapid response tracker.

The Importance of Diagnostics

Your eye and vision are like your fingerprint – truly distinctive and personal. They are distinctive because light is scattered unevenly to form a pattern that is unique to your eye and because your cornea has a unique shape. Each WAVEFRONT treatment assessment involves an extra diagnostic (screening) process extensive enough to let the surgeon see every individual patient’s unique optical characteristics. With a WAVEFRONT treatment assessment, you can rest assured that your surgeon now has a broad base of information on which to decide whether your eyes are suitable for treatment, and how to plan the right treatment for you.

How WAVEFRONT works

WAVEFRONT software combines data from two different types of diagnostic equipment, then programmes the laser with your unique treatment, based on this data. Data is collected to assess the structure of your cornea (called topography). Data is also collected from a measurement of your optical system using the advanced wavefront technology, a measurement not normally taken with standard LASIK treatments.

Key Features

WAVEFRONT measures and treats higher order aberrations through the 5th order.  It analyzes elevation and curvature measurements on both anterior and posterior surfaces of the cornea. It is Capable of detecting and analyzing posterior corneal abnormalities where some corneal anomalies first appear.  Features dynamic customizable quad maps show any combination of measurements in one convenient format.

WAVEFRONT Treatment Cards

The Z100 laser allows your surgeon to treat your corneas with much greater precision than with a standard treatment, shaping laser treatment for your eyes only. This is because, as well as a standard 2mm diameter beam, the Z100 laser also has a finer 1mm beam for fine-tuning and for treating the aberrations caused by scattered light. Both laser beams are shaped by your personal WAVEFRONT Treatment Card, controlling the laser beam throughout every stage of your treatment. Only one card is used per treatment – to make absolutely sure that the beam is of the highest quality.

B&L Wavefront
The Bausch and Lomb WAVEFRONT Workstation unites two trusted technologies: Zywave Wavefront Aberrometer and Orbscan IIz Anterior Segment Analysis System. The Orbscan IIz Anterior Segment Analysis system provides a thorough analysis of the anterior segment of the eye. The Wavefront Aberrometer offers precision diagnostics, measuring refractive error by identifying the most aberrations of the eye.

Planning
The WAVEFRONT Diagnostic Workstation combines total refractive error with total corneal architecture and this gives the surgeon the most comprehensive analysis of your Individually these technologies supply critically important data and together they transform the science of preoperative refractive. The Orbscan IIz™ Anterior Segment Analysis system provides a thorough analysis of the anterior segment of the eye, for instance both surfaces of the cornea, full corneal pachymetry and anterior chamber depth. The  Zywave Wavefront Aberrometer offers precision diagnostics, measuring refractive error by identifying the most aberrations of the eye.
Zywave Wavefront aberrometer is technology that utilizes wavefront analysis, identifies aberrations and measures refractive error and abnormal refractive errors identifying those patients who may not be appropriate for refractive procedures. Along with the Orbscan II™ anterior segment analysis system creates a new standard in surgical planning, measuring 18,000 data points in only three seconds. This type of analysis provides in-depth information of the anterior segment (front portion of the eyes) including both the anterior and posterior surfaces of the cornea. Some of the properties that the Orbscan II™ can measure are corneal elevations and curvatures, corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth, and irregularity in depth and pupil size

To ensure this technology is right for you, you must come in for an evaluation to see if you qualify and can benefit from these procedures.

Clinical Study Results (FDA)

Bausch & Lomb WAVEFRONT:

In the clinical study conducted for the Bausch & Lomb Technolas® Z100 System for Personalized Vision Correction, several measures of the safety and effectiveness of the device in LASIK treatments for myopia up to -12.00 Diopters (Canada) and up to - 6.00 Diopters of astigmatism (Canada) were evaluated. Overall, the key outcomes surpassed the values recommended by the FDA in their Excimer laser guidance document. The principal results reported to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) six months for all treated eyes after surgery are presented here.  Click here for B&L Results (FDA).
